Narratives

Great Zoom session today.

(Ma'ake had just nipped away during the photo!)

Today we looked at how to start our narratives, using description to create images for our audience.

We read some books to see how they start and then began writing our own introductions to let the audience know where our Wild Thing lives, what they look like and some things they like to do.  This will enable our audience to have a good understanding of our main character.

Next we will build up to some drama or problem for our character.  Some of the characters are lovely and kind, while the others are a little bit scary.

As you can see I have made many changes to my draft narrative.  Each time I read it, I think how can I make it better?  Sometimes it is by adding a descriptive word or even adding a whole new sentence.

Reading Challenge

Are you up to the challenge?

Have you got an awesome book that you can be photographed reading?

Grab that awesome book and get your photo entered before Monday 6 September.

Let's try to have the most class entries!

Day 8 of Home Learning

We have had zoom lessons in reading, writing and maths!

Many students are working on Studyladder and Sunshine Classics as well as completing the tasks in the hard packs.

Can't wait to post more of your writing for you own "Wild Things", remember you are aiming for over 12 sentences.  Check the previous blog - writing zoom lesson if you can't remember what to do.

Enjoy your weekend.  Snuggle up with a good book - maybe even make an indoor tent and read to all of your toys.

Go Noodle

We all love doing GoNoodle in class and I am thinking you might need some exercise at your home as it is a bit drizzly today.

Click the titles to go to GoNoodle.

Ma'ake

This is Ma'ake's "Wild Thing" and his piece of writing following our Zoom session today.

Can you find the simile?  Can you say the descriptive language he has used?  Can you see how he has used a FANBOY to extend his sentences.

Check out the blog post titled "Writing Zoom Lesson" so you can complete your writing task too.

Studyladder

Well done to those that have been able to login and complete tasks in maths, reading, science and spelling.

If you can't remember your login details, email me donna.watson@netherby.school.nz

Keep up the great work!

Writing Zoom Lesson

Great to see many of you at the Writing Zoom today.

We are learning how to extend our writing ideas with the use of FANBOYS (conjuctions).  Rewatch the clip linked below to see how these conjunctions are used.

FANBOYS YouTube

Once you have drawn your own "Wild Thing" plan out your story using the headings -  beginning, Middle and End.

In the beginning you describe your character, tell what they do, where they live and the type of Wild Thing they are.

The middle is where you bring in a problem.  In my story it is people coming and being mean to my Wild Thing which makes her run away crying.

The ending wraps up your story.  It can be happy, sad or lead to perhaps another chapter.  In my story a kind boy brings her berries and they become friends.

Remember to include some similes, plenty of description and use FANBOYS.

I can't wait to post some stories and pictures soon.

Funderpants

Check out the video to find out about Joe's identity problem.

Now it is up to you to design the coolest pair of Funderpants for you.

We will display them in class when we return to school.  Make your undies as big as a sheet of paper or take up a whole page in your book.  I can't wait to see your designs.

Life in the Garden

Great to see so many during our reading Zoom meetings.  We had 12 students reading and discussing the questions for our article on "Life in the Garden."

After our sessions I asked everyone to go hunting in their gardens to see what insects they could find.  Here are a few examples that have been found so far.

Home learning with Ma'ake

Ma'ake has been working hard on all the set work from last week in maths, writing and PE.  He can balance really well on his right leg.
For his letter to me he would like to go swimming - what a great idea!

Studyladder

Great start to using Studyladder!

When you go online you can change your avatar like Myles and Rayan have.

When you have logged in then go to the tasks set for your reading group.  You will find some tasks such as, maths, reading, spelling or science tasks.

By now you will have opened your 'hard packs' of learning.  Inside you will have discovered some colouring tasks, maths, reading, writing and art activities to try out.

There is also one book that we will read together in our reading group Zooms.  Details for each group will be emailed out.

I can't wait to see more learning from students.  Have your parent or caregiver take photos and send them to our class Facebook Page - "Room 4 Netherby 2021" or email me - donna.watson@netherby.school.nz

Home based learning for Karearea

I hope you are all staying safe during this recent lockdown.  Please check the Choice Board and work out which activities you can complete.  Aim for at least 2 from the reading, 2 from the writing and 2 from the maths sections.
I would love to see your work in a photo or video.  Send any evidence of learning to me donna.watson@netherby.school.nz  I can't wait to see and hear what you are doing.
