Water Safety

Included in our swimming week was a session on water safety for when we are in a boat, at the lake or in a river.

It is important we always wear a lifejacket when we are out on open water.  We need to know how to look after ourselves, our friends and our family if an accident occurs.

Check out our videos and photos as we practiced how to get off the lifeboat safely.  We also had to practice hauling people up into a boat.  This was really hard as we had to keep the boat steady and use all our muscles to help each person up.

Capacity in a Cup

Mrs Watson posed the following question, "I have sets of all of these cups and if I need to make 8 cups of tea for myself and my friends which cup set should I use?  My kettle holds 1.8L of water.  Will I only have to boil the jug once?"

In our groups we used the measuring jugs to work out the capacity of each cup.  Then we multiplied that number by 8.

The answer to the question was no.  Most cups could hold 300mL of water.  Mrs Watson would have to boil the jug twice.

The recipes for our chocolate cakes

As promised - here are the recipes that we used.

Round cake (group 1)

Rainbow Cake - (group 2)

The cake that didn't make it.... (group 3) This is a really big cake, and needs a big cake tin.

Would love to see any cakes you make at home.

Birthday Baking Fun

Maths has never been so tasty! Today we celebrated two birthdays - Noo and Mrs Watson!

Our maths topic is mass, capacity and volume so we measured up a treat over in the hall.  We did have 3 groups but one cake didn't quite make it to icing standard - oops!

To complete our double super birthdays we all went outside to blow bubbles.

Getting Creative

Let's get creative!

We headed outdoor (mainly to have time without our masks) but also to try recreate awesome star photos.

Thanks to Elijah our photographer on the ground for these epic photos.

Reading Contracts

Once we have had our guided reading lesson with Mrs Watson, Maureen or Andrena we select our own follow up activity.

There are 12 different options - mostly creative tasks like making posters, puppet shows, or slideshows using devices.  We all love learning on the devices.  So far we know how to use:

  • Canva - creating informative posters
  • Puppet Pal - making our own movies
  • Kahoot - making our own quiz
  • Puzzlemaker - creating our own wordfind
  • Scratch - creating codes to have images move, talk and make sounds
We also have device free tasks such as:
  • Comics - retelling a story in comic format
  • Board game - creating a game about our book
  • Fortune tellers - a quiz in paper format
Check out some of our examples.
